Property buyers in South Africa are attracted by the spectacular setting of Muizenberg on the foothills of the Peninsula mountains. Muizenberg lies at the northwestern corner of False Bay about 25km south of Cape Town. Muizenberg properties have glorious views across False Bay and down the Peninsula mountain chain. A view to take your breath away unfolds from the elevated Boyes Drive leading between Muizenberg and Kalk Bay and is a good place to spot whales in the season.

IMuizenberg's history dates back to around 1670 when a cattle post was established on the banks of Sandvlei. It i sbelieved that a military outpost was established here under the command of Sergeant Wynand Muijs of the Dutch East India Company in 1743, and that Muyssenberg was named after him. The battle of Muizenberg (1795) and the subsequent Second Occupation in 1806 marked the beginning of the period of British influence on the Cape. By the end of the century Muizenberg was a fashionable holiday resort with several hotels. Many of the wealthy diamond mining magnates built holiday homes here, including Cecil John Rhodes whose house still exists today. Some areas of Muizenberg are still largely Victorian character and show evidence of the wealth of this era.

Nowadays a rather mixed crowd comes together in Muizenberg but it still has its stunning wide sand beaches, turquoise-blue water and one of the bays best sheltered from the wind on the Cape Peninsula. It has a perfect bathing beach, gently sloping, with flat, hard sand, moderate waves and safe swimming, ideal for young children. There are landscaped gardens, a water-slide, boat pond, children's playground and a putt-putt course. Muizenberg beach with its colourful wooden cabins is also a popular venue for fashion shoots. For anglers all seasons are good, each month bringing its own species of fish into the bay.

Muizenberg is a paradise for lovers of the outdoors. The mountains above Muizenberg offer hikers a myriad of trails and those who do not mind confined spaces can explore a labyrinth of caves.
