Wilderness is a South African town situated in the Garden Route and Karoo regions of the Western Cape. Wilderness is a short distance east from the city of George, on the N2 down the Kaaiman's River Pass and is known for its long white sand beach and lagoons. Wilderness caters mostly to holiday-makers and is situated directly on the Touw River Lagoon.

Wilderness is renowned for its vast stretches of beach, tranquility and the absence of windswept wetlands, wild and stormy seas. Wilderness overlooks not only the sea, but also the placid lagoon, the Serpentine, which meanders between the Touws River, Island Lake, Langvlei and Rondevlei.

Encompassed within the boundaries of Wilderness is the 2500 ha Wilderness National Park. Five rivers and five lakes, two estuaries and 18 km of Southern Cape coastline are protected within the Park. This rare and sensitive eco-system is home to a wealth of water birds.

The town experiences an extremely mild climate, typical of the Garden Route and Wilderness has little temperature variation, seldom dropping below 10ºC and above 28ºC, with year-round rainfall.
